In a surprising turn of events, former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has spoken out against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s recent demand for Ksh. 10 billion from President William Ruto. Kabogo expressed his concerns, questioning why Gachagua, who has only been in office for a year, would make such a significant demand when, according to Kabogo, he himself managed to accumulate Ksh. 3 billion after three decades of work in politics.
Kabogo's remarks come at a time of heightened political tension in the Mt. Kenya region, where several leaders have faced public backlash. Notably, the residents of Nyandarua County have recently expressed their displeasure, heckling prominent leaders including Kikuyu Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah, and the Nyandarua County Woman Representative during President Ruto’s visit to the region.
In his statement, Kabogo pointed out the contrast between his own financial trajectory and Gachagua's demands, raising questions about the former DP’s intentions. "For thirty years in politics, I was able to accumulate Ksh. 3 billion, yet within a single year, Gachagua is requesting Ksh. 10 billion. This raises eyebrows," Kabogo said, urging a closer examination of the situation.
Kabogo’s criticism of Gachagua’s demand has sparked heated discussions across Kenya, with many questioning the motivations behind such a hefty sum being sought by the former DP.
