County Governments Challenged to Devise Ways of Boosting Their Local Revenue Streams

The Commission on Revenue Allocation CRA has challenged county governments to strive to devise ways of boosting their local revenue streams.

Speaking in Iten, commission Chairperson Dr Jane Kiringai said the Commission was keen to establishing standardization of revenue management systems for all county governments.

According to CRA, obvious revenue streams such as Cess collection, parking and licensing ought to be going on an upward trend and counties needed to maximize on their potential revenue targets.

John Martim Director Finance and Economic Planning said Elgeyo Marakwet achieved it’s targets in the previous successive years, though it still needed to maximize potential revenue targets.

The Commission is on a tour of counties for a fact finding mission with a view to reviewing the Third model of Equalization fund.

The Chairperson was hosted for a brief meeting chaired by County Secretary Paul Chemuttut on behalf of H.E. Governor Alex Tolgos.

CECs Anne Kibosia,(Agriculture), Shadrach Yatich (Tourism), Kevin Biwott (Finance), Chief officer Nixon Changkwony and technical officers from the department of Finance and Economic Planning were in attendance.
