29 Inmates Bailed Out of the Eldoret Women’s Prison
The Kenya Women’s Senator Association has bailed out 29 inmates with Petty cases from the Eldoret Women’s Prison as one of their projects in ensuring the empowerment of Women.
The 29 inmates will be released on Tuesday.
Led by Hamida Kibwana, chair lady KEWOSA, the association which comprises Women senators from across the country, said this was a way of improving the mental health among women inmates.
“We have brought good news apart from the simple material visible here, we will also bail out 29 inmates with petty offenses. It is disheartening to witness individuals who could be leading productive lives trapped behind bars due to financial constraints,” said Hamida Kibwana during their visit to the Eldoret GK Women prison.
The women senators vowed to embark on a mission to change the sorry state of woman’s prisons across the Country by providing beds and mattresses for the inmates.
“We will ensure that through those in charge, we purchase beds and mattresses and ensure the “one bed one person” rule is upheld,” she said.
“We will help transform the environment of this prison just like we did in the Nairobi Women’s Prison,” she acknowledged.
In addition to their presence, the Senators presented
donations as a token of their support to bring a ray of hope and provide some relief during the inmate’s time of confinement.
The Senators urged President William Ruto and the government to prioritize the improvement of the welfare of the Prison Service and the Police service and stressed the address of the deplorable housing conditions they endure and seek investment opportunities to build modern correctional facilities.
