County To Help Ensure Farmers Get Subsidized Fertilizers Closer to Them

The County Government of Uasin Gishu has teamed up with the National Cereals and Produce Board in a bid to ensure farmers have easy access to subsidized fertilizers.

County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture Edward Sawe says the county has offered 5 stores to be used as distribution centres for the fertilizer that the Government is selling to farmers at Ksh3,500 per bag.

Speaking to the press at the Eldoret NCPB depot, Sawe said the 5 stores are capable of holding up to 6,000 bags.

He also challenged farmers yet to register to do so, so that they can benefit from the fertilizer subsidy program.

The Government has been registering farmers, through which their details are captured electronically, and the same is used to generate an e-voucher for the purchase of fertilizer.

According to the CECM, so far, over 99,000 farmers have been registered in the county.

On his part NCPB North Rift regional manager Gilbert Rotich assured farmers that there will be sufficient fertilizer for farmers this planting season.

The fertilizers, Rotich said can be accessed at all NCPB depots and KNTC stores with plans ongoing to avail them at cooperative societies.

Already farmers have started buying the fertilizers in readiness for the planting season expected to start later this February.

Acting Chief Officer for Agriculture Reuben Seroney were present.
