The County Government of Uasin Gishu is working through the Department of Roads, Transport, and Public Works to add the equipment required by the fire and emergency response teams.

This comes when Eldoret town is experiencing tremendous growth as it eyes city status. Disaster response prepareness is among the requirements for a town to be elevated to a city.

According to the County Executive Committee Member for Roads, Transport and Public Works Eng. Joseph Lagat, the county Government will procure two new water bowsers to assist fire engines as they also work to repair other fire engines that had broken down.

“We will also procure personal protective equipment and collaborate with other partners within and outside the county to help us have all necessary equipment,” Eng Lagat noted while addressing the team at the main fire station in Eldoret.

The CECM said they have already received a letter of more equipment that has been brought from the United States of America to support the team.

He said this is aimed at ensuring the County is prepared to respond to firefighting needs which are going to increase as Eldoret town continues to grow economically due to new upcoming factories, ongoing restoration of factories that had stalled, and the affordable housing project that is about to commence.

“You have been doing a commendable job. We had a long dry spell and cases of fire outbreaks were on the rise even in neighboring counties but you responded to all cases and assisted put out the fire to save lives and property, “Eng Lagat told the team

Eng Lagat pledged to follow up with the Cabinet on the Fire Bill that had been presented to the county assembly of Uasin Gishu during the last regime but was not enacted to help address challenges of compliance and inspection of buildings for fire safety.
