Kenyan President Praises Marathoners for Olympic Achievements
President William Ruto has expressed his admiration for Kenyan athletes following their remarkable performances at the Paris Olympic Games.
The President’s accolades come in the wake of recent successes by Emanuel Wanyonyi and Ronald Kwemoi, who have elevated Kenya’s profile on the global stage.
Ronald Kwemoi won a silver medal in the 5000M race with a time of 13:15.04, finishing just behind Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway, who claimed gold with a time of 13:13.66. President Ruto took to social media to commend Kwemoi for his impressive achievement.
“Congratulations Ronald Kwemoi for the spectacular show in the 5000M race at the Paris Olympic Games. Winning the Silver medal cements Kenya’s pole standing in the competition,” President Ruto wrote.
Additionally, Emmanuel Wanyonyi secured gold in the 800M race with a time of 1:41.19, narrowly defeating Marco Arop of Canada (1:41.20) and Djamel Sedjati of Algeria (1:41.50). The President praised Wanyonyi’s performance as a testament to his dedication and perseverance.
“Finishing first in such a competitive race is a testament to your hard work and resilience. Thank you for flying the Kenyan flag high on the global stage,” said President Ruto.
The President also acknowledged Faith Kipyegon’s historic victory and record-setting performance in the 1500M race, highlighting her significant contribution to Kenya’s success at the Games.
