Water challenges facing some parts of the county are being addressed by my administration, Busia Governor, H.E Sospeter Ojaamong has said.

Addressing mourners on Saturday during the burial of a prominent Kaliwa businessman, Geoffrey Ochokolo, the Governor said he had noted the concerns of residents which thus calls for urgent intervention to restore normalcy.

” Water coverage has improved across the county and which currently stands at 55 per cent. A part from the water rig procured by the County Government, we shall endeavour to undertake repairs of dysfunctional boreholes and handpumps to enable residents enjoy normal water supplies,” he said.

The department of water has rolled out pipeline extensions of the high- yielding Akibui solar powered borehole, with residents of Amagoro and its environs set to get tapped water as a stopgap measure before the completion of the Malaba-Malakisi water project.

Problems facing residents of Port Victoria and its environs will also be ironed out soon with completion of repairs of dysfunctional equipment at Port Victoria water scheme.

On politics, the Governor urged politicians to undertake peaceful campaigns devoid of character assassinations and witch hunt, noting that the county is more important than an individual.

” I also caution politicians against promising electorates heaven and delivering hell. Instead of making such unrealistic promises considering the economic crunch facing the country, such politicians can mobilize support from Non Governmental Organizations,” he said.

The Governor said there is no position which is a reserve of certain individuals, encouraging those who have interests in contesting for various seats including Governor, Senator, Women Representative, Members of Parliament and Members of the County Assembly to go for it.

” There should be no excuse that so and so has stood for a certain seat. It’s their prerogative to do so,” he said, noting that it’s the electorate who will have the final shot of deciding who are their preferred candidates for various positions.

” As I am set to exit the stage at the helm of the county’s leadership, I want to leave you in safe hands, thus the need to get my successor who will continue uniting county residents instead of dividing them along tribal lines.
