BOOST FOR UASIN GISHU TRADERS FOLLOWING EXTENSION OF COUNTY STREET LIGHTING PROGRAM

The Uasin Gishu County through the department of Roads, Transport, Energy and Public Works has made a great economic impact to the residents during the 2020/2021 financial year following the completion of over 40 schemes of street lights spread in 25 wards.A total of 115 schemes are planned for completion by end of March 2022.

Chief Officer Roads, Transport , Energy and Public Works Mr.Julius Rotich said with the improved security traders can now do business for longer hours and achieving governor Jackson Mandagos objective of continuously growing the economy of residents and also Eldoret town becoming a 24 hour economy.

The director in-charge of the Energy section, Engineer Julius Ronoh, said under the 2021/2022 financial year, 21 wards have allocated KSh 94,650,000 under the Ward Equitable Fund for the extension of the program. He explained that the remaining work will be completed by June this year adding that surveys have been done in all of the earmarked areas for the installation of the street lights in the Wards.

The lighting program has boosted hours of traders conducting their businesses, improved security and access to electricity to residents in both urban and in most rural parts of the agriculture-rich county.
