Kenya Power is set to install solar panels in all public utilities in Turkana and West Pokot Counties.
According to Kenya Power Northrift Manager Kipkemoi Kipyas the solar systems will be installed in schools, hospitals and dispensaries.
“Verification was done in Turkana and West Pokot and designers are yet to go and work on the issue,” Kipyas said while speaking to the press.
This will ensure that the above mentioned counties will benefit and enjoy the services that other counties with power are getting.
“By April this year all public institutions will be connected to solar systems and they will be able to run smoothly,” he added.
The Northrift Kenya Power Manager said Lodwar town is one of the firstest growing towns in Northrift region and the demand for electricity is highly growing.
“There’s hope to the citizens of Turkana for the extension of the grid connection from Lokichar to Lodwar town, this will help in meeting the growing demand of electricity in Lodwar,” Kipias said.
“The step that the Kenya Power in Northrift region has taken is really acknowledgeable and promising to the citizens facing power challenges in Arid and semi arid regions,” he added.
