The Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS) loses 500 million shillings annually due to water lose.
The loses which translate to 42% of Eldowas revenue are as result of among others illegal water connections and spillage of water caused by broken pipes.
Speaking to the press, Peter Biwott the company’s managing director said they had launched an initiative aimed at rewarding citizens who help them identify and arrest individuals involved in illegal water connections.
A member of the public who reports illegal water connection and spillage is usually rewarded Ksh 2000 by the company.
The Eldowas MD warned those involved in illegal connection will face the full force of the law.
“There will be penalties to those who destroy our pipes. Those who steal water should be arrested and if they don’t comply they will be taken to court for going against human rights “
Eldoret town is usually faced with regular water shortage due to rising demand of water.
The current demand of water is 60 million litres per day against Eldowas daily production of 43 million litres.
