Draft Laws on Climate Financing in place- ADS Official

In partnership with the Anglican Development Services (ADS) Western region, the county government has made draft laws on Climate Financing.

Once in place, the law drafted through the Adaptation consortium will enable the county administration to source for donor financing as well as from the national government to fund climate related projects.

Speaking at the climate change stakeholders’ forum in Kitale, ADS Programs Co-coordinator Brenda Okongo affirmed that the draft was ready.

“We hope that the county has also established the Climate Change Act, Policy and the regulations and have the structure as per the Act. Will engage the county to do more training on the same so that it benefits from the Climate Change Finance” Okongo said.

She added that ADS is ready to partner with the county in order to ensure that the department establishes wards climate change committees as the county awaits the (FLOCA) financing.

County director of Environment and Natural Resources Godfrey Wekesa said climate change is a reality and Trans-Nzoia County, just like any other part of the country has been he affected too.

He cited the perennial floods in Namanjalala area with ather parts of the county among them Chepchoina in Endebess constituency experiencing a irregular rainfall.

Mr Weksesa added that through the effects of climate change the county has also faced infestations of crop diseases and pest in crops and animals like the fall armyworms and (NLMD) diseases in maize.

He lauded the development partners from the ADS and the adaptation Consortium for partnering with the county to come up the structures that will enable the Trans Nzoia get the climate mitigation funds.
