BEFITTING SENDOFF FOR ITESO CULTURAL LEADER EMORIMOR OSUBAN

The Soroti-based Iteso Cultural Leader the late Emorimor Augistine Lemukol Osuban was today given a befitting send-off during a burial mass at Abilayep village in Serere District, Eastern Uganda.

Religious, cultural and politicians led by Uganda Vice President, H.E Jessica Alupo eulogized the iconic cultural leader as the gallant son of the Iteso who valued the cultural norms of his community.

Ugandan President, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in a message of condolence read on his behalf by the vice president H.E Alupo, said
the fallen cultural leader displayed zeal, noting that he was a great advocate of peace, unity, moral cultural values and had good relationship with the NRM government.

” The late Emorimor was a great agriculturalist and educationst who had the zeal to attract projects to Teso region, I am indebted in his great work,” he said.

He added: ” It’s our responsibility as the church or the Government to take care of the elderly who are vital source of wisdom and for the good of the society.”

H.E Alupo cautioned the Iteso Culural leaders against making irrational decision in chosing Emorimor’s successor. She told them to take time and have consensus on all procedures in honour of Emorimor who had unrivalled legacy to rescue ICU from destruction.

Teso North Member of Parliament in Kenya, Oku Kaunya read message of condolences from ODM leader, the Rt. Hon Raila Odinga before handing it over to the deceased widow Toto Akaliait.

Narrating her last encounter with the fallen cultural leader, H.E Alupo said Emorimor embraced tree planting which he wanted members of his community to embrace aimed at protecting the ecosystem and mitigate eratic weather patterns.

Aspirants from Teso region in Kenya including Daniel Mogoria (Gubernatorial), Evalyne Ikwii Omasaja (Woman Representative) and Gregory Odeke (Teso North ) took an opportunity to greet mourners and announce their political ambitions back home during the August 9th, 2022 General elections.

Emorimor Papa Iteso, a stalwart of culture and Agricultural specialist died on February 5th, 2022 at Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala where he was hospitalized for nearly two weeks.

The burial mass was presided over by Bishop Dr Joseph Eciru Oliach of Soroti Catholic Diocese.

In his sermon, Bishop Oliach eulogized Papa Emorimor as a God fearing man who treasured Eucharist, noting that cultural leaders should use prudence in electing the next Emorimor.
