NCPB Opens Eldoret Agricultural Hub
National Cereals and Produce Board(NCPB) has launched Eldoret Agricultural Hub.
According to the NCPB Chairman Mutea Iringo this is the first one of its kind in the whole Country.
“Today we have opened the Eldoret Agricultural Hub which is like Huduma center where a farmer is able to access all farm products, farm implements, machinery, get advice in terms of financing, various agricultural activities,” said the NCPB Chairman while speaking to the press.
He reiterated that farmers will also be able to get advice on the types of seeds or fertilizers suitable for their soils.
“This is a one-stock shop where a farmer is able to come in and go out with all the solutions in terms the fertilizer, seeds, farm implements, and whatever else they require which will help to increase agricultural productivity,” he added.
Iringo said the concept of the hub will be rolled out in other parts of the country where farmers will have to get an opportunity to get all they need in one place.
“In this arrangement, we are in collaboration with stakeholders of various products, seeds the cost of establishing the hub is not very high,” he added.
He further revealed why the prices of fertilizers have skyrocketed.
“Fertilizer prices have been unfavorable for the last two years has been unfavorable this is attributed to coronavirus pandemic where the production went down and currently the demand is very high because the production was low and demand high that why we have high prices of fertilizers,” he added.
He said the government is looking at modalities where fertilizers can be imported and farmers get it at a subsidized rate.
NCPB MD Joseph Kimote says “The prices of fertilizers is also high because of high prices of fertilizers in the global market which is related to the covid issue also the cost of production in the global market,” he said.
He noted that the government is working closely with manufacturers to work on modalities on how fertilizers prices will go down.
“NCPB will negotiate directly with manufacturers to reduce the Fertilizer prices,” he added.
