BUSIA MOTHERS URGED TO EMBRACE FAMILY PLANNING
Busia County Department of Health and Sanitation has underscored the importance of Family Planning (FP) in improving maternal health.
The Director in charge of Preventive and Promotive Services, Dr Melsah Lutomia said the use of contraceptives play a significant role in saving lives in terms of reducing the maternal mortality rate.
“It gives enough space for a mother to gain her health back before conceiving another child, a situation that is required in lowering the chances of maternal mortality,” she said.
She continued: “Contraceptives gives that opportunity for a mother to be able to eat well after delivery and be able to regain health as well as prevent the anaemic state. FP has really come to save the young generation.”
Dr Lutomia made the remarks at the Chef West Hotel in Busia town while addressing the Sub County Health Management Teams (SCHMT) and a section of the County Health Management Team (CHMT) members during a meeting convened by Living Goods (LG) to scale up FP services in the County.
She further expressed gratitude to LG and other partners for supporting the county, adding that there is need to work together to address the available gaps for the interest of county residents.
The County Pharmacist Dr Abiud Machuki revealed that FP commodities remain a serious challenge with the biggest concern being on Depo Provera Injection for birth control.
Those present included the Community Health Services Coordinator Emmanuel Luvai and the Living Goods team led by the Government Relations Manager Patrick Adera.
