Mudete Tea Factory new Board members Pay Courtesy Call to Governor Otichilo
Mudete Tea Factory new Board members led by Chairman Abungana Khasiani today paid a courtesy visit to Vihiga Governor Hon. Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo at his office in Mbale where they discussed a wide range of issues amongst them good correlation between the factory management and County Government of Vihiga, tea hawking and road maintenance in tea catchment areas.
The County Boss thanked the new directors for rising to the occasion and engaging all stakeholders including the County government for the betterment of the factory.
“As a government we are more than willing to work with Mudete because it’s among the key factories in the county that has created jobs and improved residents’ welfare,” Said Dr. Ottichilo.
The Governor also told the members to come up with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which will define it’s engagement with the County government.
He further noted that the Ministry of Agriculture is not fully devolved for the scheduled crops which include tea, coffee,sisal and cotton and as a result, a larger part of the budget is still held at the national level which makes it difficult to improve all sectors of the department.
County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of Agriculture Mr Alfred Indeche urged the board to be attending Public Participation forums as they are major stakeholders in the county affairs.
Chairman Abungana Khasiani on his part said that more than 5 million kilos are being lost to private factories hence reduction in profits being realized at the factory.
He however stated that the monthly payment for tea leaves has been increased from Ksh. 17 to Ksh. 20 per Kilogram.
Also present were Chief Officer Agriculture Dominic Luvavo, Director Agriculture Reuben Chumba, Director Revenue James Atemba, Advisor to the Governor on Governance and ICT Joseph Lunani among others.
