Kenya Kwanza alliance wants President Kenyatta to apologize for endorsing Raila
Kenya Kwanza leaders address supporters at a rally in Thika on Sunday, March 13, 2022.

Led by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, the alliance claims that President Kenyatta has abused his office by engaging in succession politics.
According to the senator, Mr. Kenyatta had promised to back Ruto in his quest for presidency this year and thus throwing his support to Odinga is wrong.

Leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto in the Kenya Kwanza alliance now want President Uhuru Kenyatta to apologize for his support of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
The alliance, led by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, claims that President Kenyatta has abused his position by engaging in succession politics.

“Kama Kenya Kwanza tunaamini taifa letu lazima lisonge mbele kutoka kwa uongozi wa Uhuru Kenyatta,” said Murkomen on Sunday, “Mimi nimefanya kazi na yeye, na ninataka aombe taifa la Kenya msamaha kwa sababu siku ile walianzisha BBI, nilikuwa mmoja wa washauri wake.”

‘Asante kwa kuweka tamaa kando,’ Uhuru commends Kalonzo for backing Raila’s presidential bid
According to the senator, Mr. Kenyatta had promised to back Ruto in his quest for presidency this year and thus throwing his support to Odinga is wrong.

“Nilienda kwake akatuambia kuwa anaaka kunganisha Kenya sio kwamba anafukuza naibu wake wa Rais, akasema atakuwa chief campaigner wa William Ruto 2022,” added Murkomen.

“2022 imefika na jana ametangaza kuwa amekuwa akipanga hiyo mipango yake kwa miaka minne. I want to tell President Kenyatta, be the gentleman you are and apologize for using State resources and time for four years kufukuzana na mambo ya kitendawili.”

The President reiterated his support for Odinga’s presidential bid on Saturday during Azimio la Umoja’s National Delegates Convention (NDC) at KICC, describing him as the ideal candidate to steer the country into development and a corruption-free state.

“Sina shaka ya kwamba ana uwezo. Ako na nia, na Mwenyezi Mungu atamjalia aweze kuhakikisha ya kwamba taifa letu la Kenya litasonga mbele na maendeleo, kupigana na ufisadi na liwe taifa linaheshimika duniani. I am very confident of that,” he said.

Kenya Kwanza has termed the endorsement as “the greatest threat to the peace and democracy of our country”, and wants the Head of State to assure Kenyans that he will hand over power should Odinga fail to clinch the presidency.

“Jana amesimama akasema amekuwa chief campaigner wa Raila Odinga, I want to ask Uhuru Kenyatta, in front of Kenyans and the international community, to assure us that if his project loses the elections kuwa utapeana usukani rasmi kwa William Ruto,” said Murkomen.

He added: “Sisi Kenya Kwanza tumesema matokeo ya urais tutakubali. We want him to speak publicly kwa taifa la Kenya kwamba wakati watashindwa atakubali matokeo.”

Murkomen was speaking in Thika during a Kenya Kwanza tour of the area to popularize DP Ruto’s presidential bid.

He was flanked by FORD Kenya leader Moses Wetangula, Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Margaret Wanjiru and Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru, among others.
