CHURCH INTERVENES TO TOUCH THE HEARTS OF WARRIORS IN KERIO VALLEY
The Church has initiated spiritual interventions aimed to foster peace in the war-torn Kerio Valley.
The activities will entail Evangelism crusade targeting the host communities in the region and will be spearheaded by all denominations.
This was amongst other resolutions arrived at today during a peace meeting at Chepareria, West Pokot convened by the Church under the umbrella of “Amani Kerio Valley” and attended by a cross-section of officials drawn from various denominations and representatives of Church Peace programs.
The organisers also comprise professionals from the three Kerio Valley communities chaired by a Teacher Mr Francis Kibor.
Catholic Diocese of Kitale Bishop Maurice Crowley, Anglican Church of Kenya ACK Bishop Emmanuel Chemengich chaired the meeting that also brought on board African Inland Church AIC, Full Gospel Churches of Kenya FGC, and The Lutheran Church.
Elgeyo Marakwet area AIC Bishop David Kipsoi said the activities will include, advocacy and crusade that will run through the Easter holiday at Tot African Inland Church in Marakwet East.
There will also be inter-denominational overnight prayer at AIC Tot on 15th and 16th April. The crusade will also take place in Kolowa and Chesegon in West Pokot, announced Bishop Kipsoi.
The Clergyman said:”The Israelites were told when you are in Babylon, live in peace with the Babylonians and everyone,”
The Church will also develop a proposal on how to curb the insecurity menace and hand over to the government, said Kipsoi.
He challenged the government of Kenya to recognize the contribution of the Church in Nation building saying the Church would use it’s influence to persuade the Kerio valley residents accept Christ and shun animosity.
The Bishop quoted Jeremiah 3:6:” Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security,”
The Church observed that Professionals from the valley communities could play an active role in augmenting the Church activities aimed at changing the mindset of the communities.
Bishop Crowley however said peace in Kerio Valley can only be achieved if the host communities decided to end it and embrace good neighbourliness.
“These people have thesame blood and they look alike, all of them created in the image of God. They should cultivate love for one another,”said the man of the cloth.
The Bishop said there was an urgent need to employ new and innovative strategies in combating Kerio Valley insecurity, which he said had disrupted livelihoods of the communities.
Baringo AIC area Bishop William Kotut alongside his West Pokot counterparts were also in attendance.
Elgeyo Marakwet County government representative from the office of County Secretary CS Peace Desk Mr Richard Kayab and Embobut, Ward Administrator Sammy Cheserek were also in attendance.
