Youths Urged to Be Ambassadors of Peace
Youth across the Country have been urged to be ambassadors of peace as the Country is heading to the next elections.
Speaking to the press National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) Regional Youth Chair Rev Silas Ruto said youths should not allow themselves to be used by politicians to cause violence.
“We are telling politicians that as youths this time round we have decided as young people we are not ready to be used as agents of violence but agents of peace. As a country we don’t want to go back to the 2007 post-election violence by throwing stones and burning people’s houses,” he said.
He said that it’s sad that politicians only use innocent youths to cause violence and not their own children.
‘Politicians that you think they are enemies they eat together. You should not allow yourself to be paid by politicians to cause violence. Why should politicians use you yet he is not there and after getting the seat he will forget you until five years. This time around let us think before we act,” he noted.
He called upon politicians to desist from uttering inflammatory statements which might lead to incitement saying it might lead to war.
“I want to call upon politicians to be ambassadors of peace and should not allow themselves to use incitive words that might divide Kenyans based on their political and tribal affiliations. They should seek votes peaceful since we are the ones who will elect them,” he said.
He said IEBC should enhance civic education and ensure credible and peaceful elections and should ensure that there are free and fair.
“Voter bribery should not be allowed since bribery is unethical and it’s responsible for electing undesirable leaders. Young people elect people who are accountable and not those who are not responsible and those bribing people are irresponsible leaders,” he said.
He called upon leaders to be accountable to everyone.
“Let us take the challenge of Christ by being the salt of the world by preaching peace and ensuring the next elections are free and fair. For the sake of peace keep the decision for whom you will vote for and walk saying I will vote for so and so,” he said.
