The Ministry of Education has started a countrywide tour in schools to determine their preparedness for the transition to primary to junior secondary ahead of the January 2023 admission.
Speaking to the press Principal Secretary for Early Learning and Basic Education, Dr.Julius Jwan said this will ensure smooth transition to junior secondary education.
“Today I am in Eldoret where I have visited some school to check on on their preparedness embarked at Eldoret Town where he visited different schools to check on their progress. The Ministry expects that the construction of classrooms and laboratories should be ready in August in order to accommodate the first batch of students to be admitted in January 2023,” he said.
In a statement, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha clarified that junior secondary schools will be offered in both boarding and day secondary schools across the country under the Competency-Based-Curriculum (CBC).
Magoha added that all the existing boarding and day secondary schools will admit learners transisting from grade 6 to grade 7 under CBC.
The CS also said that the ministry had earmarked some 1500 primary schools that would host excess students advancing to grade 7.
The students will be placed into junior secondary schools based on their performance, subjects chosen and ability to join the day schools.
