Elgeyo Marakwet CEC Education Inaugurates 13-member Board of Education
The County Executive Committee Member(CECm) of Education and Technical Training, Anita Kimwattan has inaugurated a 13-member Board of Education under the County Education Fund committee with a call on the members to keep up the goal of cultivating a sense of equality and fairness.
The Elgeyo Marakwet County Education Fund Committee Act was established and operationalized in 2017 and a committee was placed to oversight the activities for an effective service delivery.
The CEC thanked the outgoing committee for the good work they have achieved for 3 years and acknowledged the growing recognition of the value of engagements at ward level on the education policy.
She encouraged the incoming team to carry out their tasks effortlessly and seamlessly.
“It is clear that the work must not stop here and we should work to ensure resources are managed effectively to ensure progress momentum is maintained over the coming years,” she said.
The County Assembly Member for the Education committee Christopher Chemosong assured the new members that they will work hand in hand to achieve equality amongst the application of bursaries and enforce openness as a sure way of being transparent.
Mr. Jonah Kigen, the Chairman of the committee, pledged commitment to the task ahead.
The members of the Board are responsible for the management of the Fund and enjoins them to pursue policies to achieve the objectives of the Fund; Share the funds among the wards in the County; Review Allocation; Approve disbursement and Monitor allocations to ensure needy and deserving students.
Other responsibilities of the Board are to maintain and update database of all applicants and beneficiaries of the fund; Produce and share disbursement reports to the county Assembly and the CECm; Resolve disputes from the ward education fund committee and Recieve, deliberate and approve applications for education loans.
The new board members are; Irene Kipchumba, Agnes Cheptoo, Benjamin Kiprotich, Jonathan Lagat Kipyego, Jane Kiplagat, Ursula Tarus, Fr. Paul Chelang’a, John Kigen, Nicholus Bett, Anita Toroitich, Kelvin Biwott, Nixon Changwony and Paul Tenoi.
Present during the inauguration was the Chief Officer for Education Nicholas Bett, Directors Paul Tenoi and Samwel Kipchumba, Outgoing members, among other staff.
