Transparency International Kenya organized an MCA debate in Six Sub counties Uasin Gishu County
According to Alex Yator from Transparency International the debate vet various aspirants for the Member of County Assembly (MCA) positions where it focused on election accountability focusing on leadership and integrity ahead of the general election.

“As Transparency International what do we want? We want a worthy leader. We are not voters here; in our organization, we have a clause that requires us to be impartial. The platform
was meant for residents to weigh their candidates and see who is best to lead you regardless of the party because the party doesn’t matter.” Said Alex Yator while speaking to the press.

The debate was conducted in Kesses, Kapseret, Moiben, Turbo, Ainabkoi, and Sub Counties where residents had a chance to put to task their leaders from various parties.
Yator noted that questions that were asked included those on integrity where they agreed to uphold and respect it in case they are elected and ensure that there is transparency.

“At transparency international Kenya we have been working towards election accountability with a huge focus on leadership and integrity. That is why we are here where we were conducting a social vetting of the MCA candidates,” he said.

He applauded residents and aspirants for turning up in large numbers to put their leader to task as the Country heads to the August polls.

“We at transparency international Kenya are very happy with the turn out from the six sub-counties, in Huruma we had nine aspirants out of eleven, Kapsoya all aspirants attended, Langas we had six aspirants out of 10 this shows that they have the urge to talk to the electorates by selling their manifesto,” Yator added.
“In all the debates we had peace in all the debates where residents were able to ask questions and also ask MCA’s questions on how they will fight corruption and what they will do if elected,” Yator said.

Yator further called on Uasin Gishu residents to maintain peace before, during, and after the August elections.
“I want to call Uasin Gishu residents to be peace ambassadors in the forthcoming elections since it’s a one-day affair and your neighbor will still be your neighbor, therefore, no need for fighting. Let’s be our neighbor’s keeper,” he added.
