SECURITY IS ALL SET FOR THE POLL’S DAY, RIFT VALLEY REGIONAL POLICE BOSS
The Regional Police Commander Rift Valley, Mr. Tom Odero, has assured the public that security teams in the region are well prepared to provide security for the General Election exercise to kick off tomorrow.
Speaking at his office in Nakuru City, the Regional Police Boss explained in detail that security officers started early preparations for tomorrow’s national exercise informed by intelligence reports, security views from the public, and reports by other statutory agencies on the security situation in the region.
While underscoring the important role the multi-agency security teams have played in suppressing threats, he exuded confidence that security installations have the manpower, equipment, and capabilities to respond to emerging concerns. He was more particular on protection of critical installations and he reported that the Critical Infrastructure Police Unit (CIPU) has deployed adequate security to the communication infrastructure across the region.
Rift Valley being a vast area with spots of difficult terrain and pockets of past reported incidences of insecurity, the Regional Police Boss has affirmed that they have deployed adequate general duty police officers to maintain law and order besides additional formed up units such as the GSU and the RDU who are strategically deployed to complement their colleagues.
He mentioned that the DCI undercover officers have also been deployed in strategic areas to support the uniformed units adding that officers involved in the election security have been sworn in in various sub-counties led by their respective county commanders. The officers include those from Kenya Prisons, Kenya Forest Service, NYS and KWS.
“We have further enhanced our aerial capabilities with stand-by helicopters and special vehicles for efficient response to security concerns in any terrain,” the Regional Boss added.
With the the escort of strategic and non strategic voting material to respective polling centres currently underway, Mr. Odero reiterates that there has not been any reported election related incident in the region and that the area has generally been calm. With the existing police-community partnership, he is confident that there will be adequate security to support the IEBC to deliver a credible, free and fair election.
