Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Cheliim on Friday presided over the launch of a process that will see all ECDE teachers in the county employed on permanent and pensionable terms.

Speaking during the event held at Home Craft in Pioneer Eldoret town, Chelilim assured that under his administration, ECDE teachers’ welfare will be well taken care of.

He noted that he understands the challenges they have been through over time and that it was time they are addressed.

“We have said an ECDE teacher must be happy like a university lecturer,” said the County Boss.

The previous administration had committed to employing the teachers on permanent and pensionable terms but the process was delayed due to what he said were delays in the implementation of the schemes of service for ECDE teachers because of budgetary constraints.

But with the process complete, the teachers have now been confirmed.

Uasin Gishu County had advertised ECDE teacher’s positions in three categories – graduates, diploma holders, and certificate holders out of which 1,287 qualified and are set to be employed.

Governor Bii said that his administration is working on a school feeding plan to improve children’s nutrition. This program is part of his 10-pillar manifesto-Nguzo Kumi. He also urged the teachers to continue scaling up in their education careers.

On his part, Deputy Governor Eng. John Barorot urged the teachers to improve the performance and confidence of the children, as molding is key.
Since its inception, the County Government has built over 1079 classrooms,11 kitchens, and 18 ECDE Centres supplied with electricity spread across the county.

“With improved terms for ECDE teachers, they expect better education for pupils in ECDE centers across the county and the county is working on ensuring public ECDE offers services that rival those that are currently been offered in private schools,” Deputy Governor Eng. John Barorot said
