Gladys Jebiwott Maiyo has declared her interest in the Elgeyo Marakwet Senatorial Seat
This comes after President William Ruto appointed Elgeyo Marakwet senator as Cabinet secretary for Roads, Transport, and Public Works.
The 25 years old graduate from Kenyatta University says she is ready to serve the interest of his people.
She says if elected her first role will be to tackle issues of insecurity in the volatile Kerio Valley.
“I will tackle insecurity along Kerio valley by proposing a bill in changing the Administration boundaries whereby the county will have an additional Assistant County Commissioner between the border. The chiefs will report any raid to the assistant Commissioner and failure they will be summoned and interdicted,” said Maiyo while speaking to the press.
Maiyo says she will work hand in hand with the Cabinet Secretary of Roads and Transport Kipchumba Murkomen in the building and construction of Ravin- Kainuk-South Sudan.
“This will attract investors to Kerio valley and create job opportunities for people to venture into business. Thus the government will provide enough security not only for the investors but also the residents of EMC,” she added.
She further said she will propose a bill that the Kenya police Reserves(KPR) are armed with sophisticated machines and systems to counteract bandits.
Concerning Agri-business the 25 years old said she will mobilize enough resources from the National government for North Rift Development Agencies to dig boreholes and provide affordable solar systems by making use of the natural sun.
“This will ensure that they venture into growing crops such as watermelon, and groundnuts through irrigation. This will increase surplus not only for local use but also for export,” she said.
Maiyo said he will work with the County Government in ensuring that they have enough cooperatives and societies for farmers to get ready markets and access inputs that are affordable.
“ I promise to revive pyrethrum farming in areas especially highlands as it’s a unique and marketable product for exporting that will generate income,” she said.
Concerning sports, the Elgeyo Marakwet senatorial aspirants say she will invest in sports and nature talents in football, and athletics and provide student sports scholarships in EMC.
“Concerning Education most schools in the region are underdeveloped. I promise to deliver by equipping them with modern technology like ICT and more computer labs to enhance research at an early age,” she said.
“I believe service to God is service to humanity. I promise to deliver to my true potential by fulfilling the interests of the people of EMC. I am confident and ready to serve my people through representation, legislation and oversight. ,” she added.
Over 30 aspirants have declared their interest in the same.
