Trans-Nzoia Health Facilities receive KSh 51M Medical Supplies

The county government of Trans-Nzoia on Tuesday distributed drugs and non pharmaceutical supplies worth KSh 51,767,712 to health facilities across the county in effort to ensure consistency and availability.

Health County Executive Claire Wanyama who was flanked by the County Secretary and a section of MCAs flagged off trucks ferrying the drugs from the county headquarters where they were received.

This is the first batch of the total KSh 57,460,636 drugs order placed by the county government with the second batch comprising of cold chain supplies such as vaccines scheduled to arrive sometime later KSh 2,747,200 consignment which entails drugs for diabetes management that require refrigeration fitted trucks will be delivered afterward.

In line with the Dangerous Drugs Act, said Mrs. Wanyama, other drugs such as morphine among others that require technical management valued at KSh 178,500 will be supplied to the health facilities across the county afterward.

At least 95 percent of the supplies are from the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) with a further supply of KSh 9,855,335 worth of drugs received from the Universal Health Care (UHC) program under the presidential flagship project.

Drugs from the UHC program will be delivered to Kitale County Hospital, the Mt Elgon Hospital, Kapsara, Kwanza, Cherangani, Matunda, and Endebess sub-county hospitals with more stock reserved at the county warehouse.

Mrs. Wanyama disclosed that the health department has established an inspection and acceptance committee consisting of the Chief Officer and the County Director of Medical Services.
