Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Leads Raid Nab Counterfeit Spirits, Arrest 3 Suspects
Uasin Gishu County security team led by the County Commissioner Dr. Edison Nyale arrested three suspects involved in the manufacture of second-generation alcohol.
Speaking to the press Dr. Nyale said the suspects were arrested after his officers received a tip-off from members of the public.
This comes after leaders from the County led by Uasin Gishu governor Jonathan Bii decried increased cases of illicit brews.
The suspects were arrested at the Chebarus area in Sigot Sub Location, Chepkoilel Location
“Today following a tip from the public our officers on Thursday managed to arrest three suspects who were in possession of counterfeit spirits of Silver Star and Golden Dream brand,” said the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner.
The suspects. David Githura Kikuyu aged 32 years, John Kariuki Kimani Kikuyu aged 22 years, and Joshua Kamau Kikuyu aged 22 years were doing illegal business in a four bedroomed residential house in Chebarus.
“The counterfeits spirits that were nabbed include 186 cartons of Silver Star Spirits, 71 Cartons of Golden Dream Spirits, assorted branded empty cartons for packaging the spirits, 9 empty plastic drums, 9 empty plastic drums among others,” he added.
Others include 90 litres of ethanol in 3 x 30 litres plastic jerrican, 77 sacks of empty bottles, assorted labels, assorted bottle tops, and a motor Vehicle Reg No. KDH 692 V Toyota Hiace.
He said the raid was multiagency which comprised of police county commissioner, KEBS, KRA, County Enforcement team, NACADA, and Chamber of commerce to enhance synergy and bring those involved to book.
The Uasin Gishu County Commissioner warned those involved in this illegal business that their days are numbered and will soon be brought to book.
“I am warning those selling illegal alcohol that they either change their business and do clean business or deal with them in accordance with the law. Elsewhere we have witnessed a number of deaths and we cannot just sit and allow it to happen in Uasin Gish,” Commissioner Dr. Nyale warned.
The recovered exhibits and arrested prisoners plus the motor Vehicle were escorted to Uasin Gishu County Hqrs Eldoret for custody pending further action.
Dr Nyale officers have conducted raids in Munyaka, Spain , Langas, Kingong places which thye are notorious for the sale of illegal alcohol.
The Uasin Gishu County Commissioner noted that the illicit brews are being stocked in bars.
“We have agreed with the governor that we are going to review licensing of the outlets and we are going to monitor where they are and what drinks are being stocked. Bars and nightclubs selling such types of drinks will be closed immediately,” he said.
This comes just a few days after they netted 334 boxes of Silver Star and 238 boxes of Golden Dream in Moiben Subcounty.
“We also arrested seven suspects who were taken to court and charged heavily. The Court directed us to apprehend the dealer in the next 14 days. We are asking him to surrender to the security agencies to DCI lest we shall catch up with him,” he added.
