County Donates Sh. 336,000 To Silungai Boys After a Fire Incident

The County Government of Kakamega has donated Shs 336,600 to Silungai Boys High School in Malava Sub-County.

This according to deputy governor Ayub Savula who represented the Governor Fernandez Barasa will aid 140 students whose personal effects were consumed in a fire incident that gutted down a dormitory at the school on 15th October 2022.

“The County Government has taken the initiative following appeals from parents whose children were affected when the incident occurred.This is why I have been send by the governor to bring Shs 336,600 to Silungai Boys High School,” said the deputy governor.

“Our aim is to ensure that our students learn in a conducive environment for the them to get quality and not quantity education,” he added.

The Deputy Governor said such incidents will be managed better once the County disaster management facility being established at Mukhonje area is completed.

The school Principal Mr. Isaac Nakwekwe said the police are still investigating the incident that occurred on that fateful day, while students were in class. He added that the burnt dormitory will cost Kshs. 9.5 Million to be re-constructed.

“Investigations are underway to determine what happened and those who were involved, where sooner or later they will be brought to book, the cost estimates of the burnt dormitory is Sh 9.5 Million,” he said.

He further assured parents of their children’s’ security saying everything is in order therefore no cause of alarm.
