Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now says the President William Ruto’s adminstration will form a task force to review terms and conditions of police officers.

He says this is to improve the working conditions of police officers.

Gachagu spoke at the Holy Family Basilica during a thanksgiving ceremony for members of the disciplined forces.

“The government would in the next two weeks unveil a task force to look into the welfare of police officers starting from the lowest rank of Police Constable to the Inspector General, who is highest ranking officer,” said the deputy president.

The deputy president said the task force will look into the issues of salaries, allowances uniform and housing among others that have bedeviled police officers for a long time.

“I also want to caution police officers against taking unlawful orders from their superiors but should instead strictly adhere to the constitution and the rule of law,” he added.

He said the tools of trade provided by the government are supposed to protect life and property and not to harm the people whom they are supposed to serve.

Cabinet Secretary for Interior Kithure Kindiki, thanked the church for the spiritual nourishment of police officers and called for continued spiritual support to the officers and their families.

The Interior cabinet secretary also warned criminals and criminal gangs that their days were numbered, adding that the government would be taking stern action against anyone found making the lives of other Kenyans difficult.
