What Huruma Ward MCA said About Skirmishes in Eldoret Town
Huruma Ward MCA Wakili Kimani Wanjohi has condemned the skirmishes that involved County Askaris, hawkers, and street urchins.
The groups of people stormed Eldomatt supermarket and carted away many goods especially foodstuffs and electronics among others.
“I want to condemn with the strongest terms possible the skirmishes that were witnessed in Eldoret town on Thursday when I was outside the County for official duties this is uncalled for and ill-intended,” said the Huruma Ward MCA.
He said it was unfortunate that the police and County askari have invaded Sokoni wholesale market with teargas and Rungus leading to residents wasting properties worth millions of shillings.
He said he will stand with those affected to ensure that they get justice.
“Your elected me to fight for you and I promise to ensure that everyone gets justice this issue of using violence to solve problems is uncalled for but we should instead talk with each other and solve any dispute peacefully.
He said that it’s sad that businessmen with bang bang during Governor Mandago’s era were allowed to sell their products but now they are being sent away right left and center.
“Before elections, all bang bang were brought back and were told to work in Eldoret by governor Mandago they were allowed to sell their fruits despite their political affiliations, but now thye are being harassed around left and center Wanjohi said that there should be a policy that will allow them to sell their products by paying a small among of money.
“There should be a policy where they will be paying at least sh 100 for them to continue with their business despite being disturbed. Those boys if we take them out of the market there will be insecurity,” said Huruma MCA.
He called on President William Ruto who hails from the region to intervene for sanity to prevail.
“We urge president Ruto to intervene so that hustlers using wheelbarrows and we urge Governor Jonathan Bii to reduce
the market closure days from seven to at least three since their stock is rotting,” he said.
Patrick Barasa staff Eldomatt bakery which was looted in the Thursday incident said they lost phones, and bags among others.
“Customers were injured and their belonging is stolen, we have started opening our business but we fear for our lives since we don’t know what might happen,” he said.
Milka says “We urge the government to intervene so that our belonging is brought back,” he said.
Fred Majengo “We urge the county government to beef up security in our street and solve the hawker’s problems so that we may work with ease,”
The Hurumka Ward MCA visited Eldoret Wholesale market and EldOmatt supermarket which was affected by the Thursday’s chaos.
