The World Comes to Eldoret as Classic Rally Return

Two decades since dust settled on the roads, the East Africa Safari Classic Rally drifts and vrooms back to North Rift for a historic spectacle

At least drivers representing 68 countries will bring the region back to a vroooming showpiece that revs off as from December 9- 11, 2022.

The three-day showpiece will be a perfect event to advertise Uasin Gishu and North Rift’s tourism potential.

“We’re grateful that the event comes back to Eldoret, it will market the county and region as the best tourist destination,” Acting Chief Officer for Trade, Kipleting Mengich, said at a meeting at his office that was also attended by County Director of Tourism Margaret Ayabei.

According to Bipin Taylor, an official from the World Classic Rally, the competition will involve vehicles manufatured in 1984 and earlier.

The vehicles will be covering between 600 to 700 kilometres along dusty roads across Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet and Trans Nzoia counties.

On December 9, the showpiece starts off in Nakuru through Solai, Lake Bogoria to Marigat, Emining, Saos, Kipsaos then to Eldoret.

The next day, the competitors start from Rupa, to Kapkitony (Age Set), down to Kipsaos, Eldoret, Plateau, Kipkabus Forest and back to Eldoret.

Day three has Iten and several parts of Elgeyo Marakwet including Chebara and back to Eldoret for a wrap up.

Ghalib Haji, a resident of Uasin Gishu County will be representing the city of Champions in the rally.
