Governor Natembeya to Use Technology, Innovative Projects to Catalyze Development
The Trans Nzoia administration will use technology, innovative projects, and programs to catalyze development in the county, Governor George Natembeya has revealed.
Speaking today during this year’s Jamhuri day celebrations in Endebess sub-county, the county chief said the technology will enable the county to eradicate poverty, educate people, inspire innovation, sustain the environment, and further produce healthier populations.
“We are positioning ourselves, as Trans Nzoia and Kenya as a whole, as a hub for information and communication technologies, eCommerce, and digital services. I am putting initiatives in place to ensure that we are part of the technological space, “said Natembeya.
According to the governor, his administration is ramping up the uptake of digital skills in tertiary education. Saying the wider adoption of innovative digital skills programs will enable reap the benefits of the digital economy.
The county is working with other partners to mainstream ICT into the county’s ECD and TVET curricula. By doing so, learners will have a competitive edge on the job market and a head start in their careers.
Reaffirming his commitment to effective governance and transparency, the governor outlined his priorities for the county. He said the implementation of ICT reforms will enable the county to run seamlessly.
“We aim to achieve significant technological advancements, including digital inclusion and the digitization of government records. We will expand eGovernment services, contributing to increased efficiency, reduced duplication, and cost savings. With the touch of a button or from your phone, you can access county government services,” Natembeya added.
The governor instructed all departments to ensure proper planning and budgeting is done even before the digitization process begins.
The governor said he would ensure residents of Trans Nzoia have access to technology.
Among the areas where technology can help are agriculture, healthcare delivery, education and training, and the industrial sector.
He said already, the county is designing an innovative healthcare management system and setting up a medical command center that will monitor operations in all facilities. This will improve access to medical care for Trans Nzoia residents.
In the area of infrastructure, he announced that the county would introduce innovative solutions that would reduce the construction cost of roads and other structures. As a result, the quality and longevity of the projects will be improved.
“We must change how we do business. We must adapt to changing realities where we tap into the digital economy. My administration will set up a digital hub in all sub-counties to support innovators and link them to potential investors,” he said.
To combat corruption in the Department of Lands, Governor Natembeya announced that his administration would digitize the land registry. This will increase efficiency in the processing of title deeds.
On empowerment, he said his administration is committed to upscaling the living standards of youth, the elderly, and vulnerable groups through the rolling out of the Nawiri fund.
The governor challenged residents to come up with innovative ways of crop development, value chain promotion, and produce marketing saying this will ensure agriculture is revived in the county.
He said the county would soon set up a 24-hour platform to enable public participation. In addition, residents will be able to share ideas on how to better the county’s economy and more importantly report any issues regarding service delivery.
