DP Gachagua Presides Over The First Commercial Flight From Nairobi to Kakamega
Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday presided over the launch of first commercial flight route by Skyward Express from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to Kakamega town.

He says the inaugural flight to the town happened less than a week after H.E President William Samoei Ruto commissioned the newly rehabilitated Kakamega Airstrip on Friday, 9th December, 2022.
“The people of Western have, for a long time, requested for flights to the town owing to its growth over time both as a commercial and education hub,” said the deputy president.
He noted that the Kenya Kwanza administration remains keen to grow partnership with the private sector, including airline operators. This is in our quest to improving the country’s business environment.
“Many years ago, while I served as a District Officer in Kakamega, it would take me over six hours to travel from Nairobi to the area. With this flight, one will save time and energy for other productive engagements,” he noted.
The deputy president says air transport is no longer a luxury for the chosen few.
“It is now a necessity to ease the cost of doing business and make it easy and convenient to travel. The government is keen to enable air transport across most counties to make it easy for people to do business and to open up more tourism opportunities,” he says.
