Inaugural Commercial Flight Lands In Kakamega County

The maiden commercial flight by Skyward Express airline touched down at Kakamega Airstrip, one week after President William Ruto commissioned the facility which has been undergoing a facelift.

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa was on site Wednesday morning to receive the flight, that was launched at Wilson Airport by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, where he said the flight marked a major step in opening Kakamega to great opportunities in trade, tourism and employment as well as investment.

In his inaugural speech after being sworn in as the County CEO, FCPA Barasa promised that his administration will provide a conducive environment to stimulate entry and retention of the private sector in the County, terming it a key ingredient for development.

During his two day working tour of Kakamega County one week ago, President Ruto asked Governor Barasa to lead stakeholder dialogue aimed at acquiring more land for expansion of the facility that will enhance travel for Western Kenya residents, once fully functional.

Earlier in the morning Governor Barasa graced a breakfast meeting organized by the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Kakamega County Investment and Development Agency where he witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between KNCCI and KCB aimed at supporting businesses in Kakamega County
