Over 300 Widows in Munyaka Get Early Christmas
Over 300 widows from Munyaka benefited with food aid from ‘Widows connection community based organization’.
The organization has over the last three years supported many widows and elderly within the Sub County.
The event was held at Mt. Ararat private school in Munyaka .
“We begun by offering Christmas to one person three years ago, we felt that we had a duty to really support the Widows in our community, during the Covid -19 pandemic we realized many widows and the elderly people lacked support from the community,” Said Naomi Wairimu and her Husband Wallace Njoroge.
The widows were given cooking oil, maize flour, Sugar among other basic needs to the widows and the elderly,
“This year we have seen the Number of Widows in need increase considerably , we are planning to provide frequent support to them just in case we get support from well wishers and members of the Community added Wairimu.
Some of the beneficiaries lauded the initiative saying the community has shunned the widows and the vulnerable in society,
“My Husband died in the 80’s for over 20 years now I have been living alone, widows face a lot of challenges and mostly being shunned by the community,” Said one of the Widows.
Kapsoya Member of County Assembly Hon. Isack Kemboi who has been supporting the Widows and the vulnerable members of the community at his ward noted that Orphaned children will be prioritized when distributing the Bursary kitty next week,
“I have been part of this support journey, every member of the community needs to live indignity we can realize this by supporting each other, I urge residents this Christmas to support their neighbors who are in need of food, as a county we have demonstrated the sharing spirit after donating food worth over 10 million to Turkana residents who are faced the vagaries of drought, “Said Hon Kemboi
