ALTEN Solar Farms Ltd Donates Sh 1.8 Million to Uasin Gishu Residents
ALTEN Solar Farms Ltd has donated Sh 1.8 Million for vulnerable families in Uasin Gishu county.
Speaking during the launch ALTEN Solar Farms Ltd director Eddy Njoroge said this will help residents from low-income families access quality health care.
He was accompanied by Zephania Mbugua and Peter Sibondo.
“Today we have launched Sh 1.8 million NHIF cover to over 300 hundred families, this is p[art of our Community Social responsibility to the resident. It will cover one year,” said Njoroge while speaking to the press.
He said the reason why they decided to go for NHIF coverage for residents is that most of the residents are unemployed and cannot afford to pay for the coverage.
“We found out that majority of residents were unable to pay the Sh 500 monthly fee that’s why we chipped in so that whenever they are sick thye can access health services at any hospital of their choice,” the ALTEN Solar Farms Ltd Director added.
“This is in tandem with president William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Manifesto where every Kenyan has a right to access quality health care through NHIF,” he added.
Uasin Gishu Women representative and the National Assembly deputy speaker Gladys Boss applauded ALTEN Solar Farms Ltd for the initiative saying it will help the less fortunate in society.
“On the behalf of people of Uasin Gishu I want to thank you for this initiative since you have saved many lives, three hundred families is not a joke, may God Bless you abundantly,” said the Uasin Gishu County women repetitively during the launch.
“Many people have done business here but have never remembered residents, I thank you for employing locals in the solar
farm. I want to assure you in the 20 years that you will be here even if you want to extend we will give you additional farm,” she added.
Alten Energías Renovables started operating in Kenya in 2013d developing the country’s first utility-scale PV solar projects. The company focused on finding land with optimal irradiation and good access to the grid.
Over the last seven years, Alten has developed two projects. The first of these, Kesses 1, is currently under construction. This project will have an installed capacity of 55 MWp that will be connected to the KPLC grid next to the town of Eldoret.
The project is financed by Standard Bank of South Africa, Stanbic, and EAIF, and is expected to go onto the grid by the end of 2020.
This project will connect to a pre-existing 230 kV power transmission line between Turkwel hydroelectric plant and the Lessos substation. This power line crosses the plant’s land, meaning that the entire power line infrastructure will be located within the boundaries of the plant’s terrain.
This facility, which covers a total surface area of about 10 hectares, will generate around 123,000 MWh/year of clean energy, equivalent to the needs of about 245,000 Kenyan homes.
