Iten Town Gets a High Court since Independence
Iten Town, Elgeyo Marakwet County now has a High Court.
Through a gazette Notice the Chief Justice Martha Koome wrote “In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 12 of the High Court(Organization and Administration) Act, 2015 the Chief Justice/President of the Supreme Court of Kenya has Established Iten High Court Sub-Registry with effect of 16th January, 2022.
Elgeyo Marakwet governor Wisley Rotich welcomed the move.
“Iten finally gets a High court. I wish to appreciate The Chief Justice Martha Koome for her swift action following our request. I also appreciate the Judiciary team in Elgeyo Marakwet and a team of professionals who were instrumental in this process,” he said.
“Since independence the people of Elgeyo Marakwet have had to travel for long distance to access Justice,” he added.
