County To Open 25 Newly Constructed Cattle Dips
Livestock diseases related to ticks will soon be a thing of the past as the County Government of Uasin Gishu has unveiled a plan to open over 25 new cattle dips.
Governor Jonathan Bii further says the Initiative is aimed at enhancing milk production amongst dairy farmers.
Speaking during the opening of two cattle dips in Kaptagat ward on Saturday, Governor Bii also said they are working on ensuring all cattle dips are rehabilitated.
Uasin Gishu has over 400 cattle dips.
“Our plan is to ensure we address infections that come from ticks and also enhance milk production,” the county boss said.
The two cattle dip that the Governor commissioned were Ngatit and Kapitoi, Kaptagat ward, Ainabkoi sub-County.
He also called on farmers to join Cooperatives so that they can easily access farm inputs such as subsidized fertilizer that the National Government plans to distribute ahead of planting season.
Agriculture CECM Edward Sawe shared similar sentiments saying the overage milk production of a farmer is 4.6 litres per cow, but hopes with dips in place, they hope to double the production to 10 litres per day for each cow.
Tembelio Ward MCA Kapkea, Acting Chief officer for Livestock Dr. Philip Biama, Acting Ainabkoi Sub County administrator, Trusela Cheptarus among other county officials were present.
