County To Adopts “Nyayo’s Milk Philosophy Footsteps” For ECDE Pupils
The County Government of Uasin Gishu on Friday finalized a three-day ECDE schools feeding policy stakeholders engagement forum which upon adoption seeks to provide adequate, nutritious meals and sustainable school feeding programmes to ensure children going to school achieve their full growth development.
The program also sees to it that school enrollment is enhanced, absenteeism is reduced and the concentration span of the school-going children is improved. The program also targets vulnerable children such as orphans by ensuring they reach their maximum productivity through the improvement of their performance and their health.
The County Executive Committee Member for Education, Vocational Training, Gender, Social Protection and Culture Dr. Janeth Kosgei while addressing stakeholders at Tac centre during the stakeholders engagement meeting on school milk feeding programme policy said the county government is ready to roll out the program on milk which will not only improve nutrition but also register better enrollment and retention.
Dr. Kosgei added that they are going around various schools across the county to diversify school meals to dietary nutrition and see the progress of the schools in embracing governor Jonathan Bii’s initiative of ensuring that schools have healthy learners.
The County Economic Advisor Matelong Philip stated that he was proud of the county for focusing on an important component of society. He appreciated the efforts to raise healthy kids and cement the early childhood strong foundation.
“The governor is addressing kids’ needs at age 4 which is a very critical age where kids are vulnerable. This will ensure we raise our children into positive transformation agents in society. Our kids will develop their brains and bodies and we will avoid children who are stunted by addressing their nutritional needs” added Matelong.
