Police Reforms taskforce Urges Police to Give their views without fear
Police reforms taskforce member Ibrahim Jillo Guyo has asked the police and prison officers to come out and air their views on how to improve their terms of service.
Speaking to the press in Eldoret town after getting views from the uniformed officers Guyo said this is the only way that their terms of service will be improved as proposed by president Ruto.
“We have started moving across the country and as a task force, we want to get views from both the police and prison officers, we want to know the amount of salary they want, their welfare among other issues that they want it improved,” said Police reforms task force member.
Among the issues that were raised include lack, of proper housing, poor salaries, working conditions
“They have said that Police just like other Kenyans should be allowed to stay with their families so that they can concentrate at their workplace. They also want some police service Acts changed, should the police laws look like to enable them to perform their duties without any hardship situations,” he added,
He noted that the police called for promotion saying that some had stayed in one job group since they were employed thus demoralizing them.
The taskforce is chaired by Retired Chief Justice David Maraga the team will among other things, review and recommend improvement of the terms and conditions of service and other reforms for members of the NPS and KPS.
The taskforce will also recommend a review of police officers’ salaries and consider new and applicable allowances that will enhance the professionalism, efficiency, and effectiveness of the NPS and KPS.
