French Government Donates State of Art Neonatal- Born Unit to MTRH

French Government has supported the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital with state of art Neonatal- Born Unit Equipments.

Speaking after touring the hospital Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Alfred Mutua said the equipment will help bring services closer to patients who used to travel to Nairobi for the same.

The CS was accompanied by Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, Olivier Becht, the French Minister for Foreign Trade, Economic Attractiveness French Nationals abroad, to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital CEO Dr. Wilson Aruasa.

“The French government has supported MTRH with state-of-the-art equipment which will be used in the Maternity and Children wards. The equipment will be serving the counties of Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Trans Nzoia, and Baringo. Treatment that used to take days will now be availed in less than a day,” said the CS Foreign & Diaspora Affairs.

He noted that the French-supported program also included the training of two Kenyan surgeons to treat liver cancer, who are now working in Eldoret.

“Thanks to the local surgeons, the cost of the life-saving surgery has dropped from over one million shillings to less than 100,000 shillings. I call upon the French Government to train 10 more Kenyan Liver Cancer surgeons,” the CS said.

The CS reiterated the need to establish a state-of-the-art medical facility dedicated to the provision of enhanced medical care to sportsmen and women and especially athletics.

“We would like to have a hospital in Eldoret that will be treating our athletes, giving them high-class treatment so that when they get into the field, they win more gold medals for the Country as they are used to doing,” Dr. Mutua said.

The Principal Secretary of the State Department of Medical Services Eng. Peter Tum said the French Government has been a valuable partner in supporting healthcare facilities, including the Shoe 4 Africa Children’s Hospital and the Riley Mother and Baby Hospital.

“We are grateful for their continued support in improving healthcare in Kenya. Our partnership with France has led to significant progress in improving access to healthcare services and reducing mortality rates, and we are committed to continuing this work towards achieving universal healthcare for all Kenyans,” the PS said.

The MTRH Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr. Wilson K. Aruasa, MBS, EBS, appreciated the French Government for funding HepWek, a two-year project through the Solidarity Fund for Innovative Project (FSPI), aimed at facilitating prevention, improving early diagnosis, enhancing Human Resource for Health capacity at MTRH for liver resection, thereby improving outcomes in the management of hepatocellular carcinoma.

“Through this project, we have trained Doctors, Clinical Officers, Nurses, and Radiographers at MTRH and Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Baringo Counties so they can prevent and diagnose hepatocellular carcinoma early and refer appropriately,” he affirmed.

MTRH serves as Hub whilst Spoke includes; West Maternity, Turbo, Kamwosor, Mosoriot, Cherangany, and Chemolingot County Hospitals.
