Governor Barasa Opens A New Maternity Wing At Malava Hospital
Kakamega governor Fernandes Barasa, the Governor Kakamega County accompanied by his deputy governor Ayub Savula commissioned a new Maternity wing at Malava Level 4 County Hospital, constructed and equipped through a partnership between the County Government of Kakamega and Jacaranda Health, under the Tutunze Kakamega Service Delivery Redesign (SDR) strategy, increasing the maternity bed capacity from 19 to 39.
In his speech, Governor Barasa revealed that 205 facilities across Kakamega County have been earmarked for upgrade through the SDR strategy, which will be implemented in three phases. He further observed that the initiative will address maternal and newborn health emergencies and improve the quality of prenatal and postnatal care in health facilities across the County.
His deputy Hon. Savula on his part challenged health care practitioners to remain committed on their duties to ensure the Governor’s Health, Hygiene and Sanitation Pillar is achieved.
Jacaranda County Director Ms Cynthia Kahumbura hailed the partnership and further thanked the Governor for his willingness to try out the approach in Kakamega County. Its success, she explained, will be a critical baseline for future scale ups in maternal health care nationally.
