City of Champions Could Feature IN Kenya- Mozambique Sports Pact
The County Government of Uasin Gishu has declared its willingness to work in support of an upcoming sports partnership between Kenya and Mozambique.
Kenya and Mozambique are currently working on an agreement that seeks to make a formal policy on the exchange of ideas and expertise on sports and sports tourism.
On his visit to Uasin Gishu on Saturday, Republic of Mozambique High Commissioner to Kenya, Jeromino Chivavi, disclosed that Kenya and his country are exploring possibilities of partnership.
The areas of partnership include harnessing sports to bolster both the economy and spur tourism, to mitigate on effects of climate change, among others.
“Kenya does very well in sports, this why Mozambique is considering an agreement for sharing of ideas for both countries to help one another,” said the envoy.
County Executive for Environment Abraham Serem, while hosting the ambassador, said the County is willing to be incorporated into the partnership. Chief of Staff Nicholas Chepkwony and Sports Chief Officer, Nahum Jelagat had similar sentiments.
Mr. Serem, while explaining the sports prowess that Uasin Gishu relishes, said besides sports persons, there is immense technical potential in coaching. Paul Bittok is a resident of Uasin Gishu and a former coach of Rwandan national volleyball team. He is currently the head coach of the national team, Malkia Strikers.
Uasin Gishu is home to 95 percent of Kenya’s world-beating athletes, with Eldoret basking in the global limelight as having the highest concentration of medals.
The envoy visited and mingled with athletes at Kaptagat’s Nike Athletics Camp and then the Lobbo Village in Kapseret, which is fresh from hosting Sirikwa Classic World Cross Country Tour.
