Transparency International Kenya hosted MCAs from Elgeyo Marakwet County in a project dubbed Rallying Efforts to Accelerate Progress.

The project targets people living with disabilities, women, and youth groups popularly known as marginalized communities with a focus on wealth and income inequalities.

“Transparency International Kenya had the privilege of engaging with MCAs from Elgeyo Marakwet County, we are engaging them on a project called rallying efforts to accelerate progress. This is a project that focuses on wealth and income inequalities and our main focus is on people living with disabilities, women, and youth commonly known as the marginalized groups.” Said Abraham Misoi, Programs Manager Transparency International Kenya.

He said accountability and transparency are the focus, the project aims at supporting the businesses of these marginalized groups by incentivizing them.

“We are here today to make that Elgeyo Marakwet County has structures that support, the women, youths, and people engaging in business by incentivizing the kind of business they are doing. Our focus is on transparency and accountability when it comes to implementation of these structures and the involvement of the marginalized groups,” he added.

Stating the role of MCAs in this whole process, Embobut/Sambalat ward representative stated the oversight duties in ensuring there are the right conditions for the marginalized groups to engage in businesses and also accessing government services.

“We had a round table meeting with transparency international on matters of income and wealth inequalities in terms of oversight. I am happy the issues raised and brought before us are actually in our midst because we started last year. Touching matters youth, women, and PWDs, we’ve already done a map for Elgeyo Marakwet County on how this program will run to benefit marginalized groups and also raise income for people living below the poverty line. Being the MCAs we are part of the team doing oversight duties and ensuring their structures are in place for the marginalized groups in accessing government services.” said Paul Ng’etich, Elgeyo Marakwet deputy speaker.
