MTRH Has State of Art Equipments to Deal With TB-Dr Aruasa
Moi Teaching and Referral CEO Dr. Wilson Aruasa said the facility has state-of-the-art equipment to deal with Tuberculosis (TB).
Speaking after joining Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Health CS Susan Wafula among other leaders in marking World TB day Dr. Aruasa said the facility is the only center that can deal with TB patients.
“At Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital(MTRH), we are the National Centre of Excellence for Managing Multi-Drug Resistant tuberculosis (MDR) and Extremely Drug Resistant TB ( Ex DR). There is no other such center in the whole country” The MTRH boss said.
He said the process of creating the centers commenced through a series of trials.
“About 10 years ago, we did not know which drugs to use so, we worked with the Ministry Department of National Leprosy and TB Programme to try the medicines under the species of the World Health Organization (WHO). We were able to treat so many patients successfully with these kinds of extreme and multi-drug resistant TB,” Dr. Aruasa added.
He said Uasin Gishu county for the last year, had 1900 patients who were positive for TB, out of which a third were diagnosed and treated successfully at MTRH.
He noted that this strategy used for TB has helped in applying the same to other diseases, Vowing that it is the best way to achieve a universal health strategy.
“We need to Implement Universal Health Coverage so that we can have bottom-up success in the Health care space. At MTRH we waive a billion shillings every year from patients who are unable to afford health care,” Dr. Aruasa said.
The MTRH CEO called upon Prima Cabinet Minister Musalia Mudavadi and Health Cabinet secretary to expedite enrollment of citizens into Universal Health Cover so that they can access healthcare easily.
“Please expedite enrollment of Citizens into UHC, Uasin Gishu was allocated 15,000 households but they have not yet been enrolled,the same story in every county in this region,Let’s expedite enrollment so that all these people can access healthcare with ease” affirmed the MTRH CEO.
