Governor Rotich Takes Medical Camp to Ward Level
The ongoing Ward Level Medical Camps moved to Moiben Kuserwo Ward today with hundreds of residents of Chebara area in Marakwet West Sub County, thronging Bungwet Dispensary to receive free services.
The medical camp organised by the county government was graced by Deputy Governor Prof. Grace Cheserek.
The medical team provided free medical services during Thursday’s camp that included cervical cancer screening, breast cancer screening, dental clinic HIV testing and counselling, malaria testing, family planning methods, Nutrition and Health Education.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Cheserek said screening for chronic diseases is strategic as it puts in place mechanisms to raise awareness about the diseases.
“We encourage the community to get screened to be able to curb cancer and other diseases in its early stages,” Prof. Cheresek said.
She said it was unfortunate that most people continue to die due to late diagnosis and lack of proper cancer treatment.
CEC in charge of Health, Michael Kibiwott, revealed that major conditions reported at the camp were malaria, respiratory disease and dental problems.
“Emphasis has been put on the non communicable diseases as they are the silent killers among our people yet this would be avoided if tests are conducted early,” he said.
Mr. Nashon Koech, the chairman of the facility and also a beneficiary of the medical camp, thanked the County Government for the initiative.
“I would like the thank county government for the drive because it will help many of us who don’t have money to seek treatment and cater for medical expenses,” Koech said.
He encouraged the community to take advantage of the free medical camp because due to lack of money, residents are forced to seek herbal treatment which sometimes do not work.
County government of Elgeyo Marakwet’s strategy to achieve universal healthcare include building resilient and responsive primary health systems and investing in preventative and promotive community healthcare.
Present at the event were the Area MCA, ward administrator among other health officials.
