7 Kenya Kwanza Individuals to Take Part in the Bipartisan Talks Revealed
Kenya Kwanza Coalition has named seven individuals who will take part in bipartisan talks with their counterparts in the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition.
The seven include Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei, Nominated Senator Esther Okenyuri, Tharaka MP George Murugara, Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, Eldas MP Adan Keynan, and Taita Taveta Woman Representative Lydia Haika.
The names were revealed after the Kenya Kwanza legislators held a Parliamentary Group meeting at State House, Nairobi. President William Ruto, who is the leader of the alliance, chaired the PG meeting.
The seven Kenya Kwanza Officials are set to engage with their Azimio colleagues on the issues raised by both parties including the recruitment of commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC).
The team will hold the bi-partisan talks with a seven-member team that was also announced by Azimio la Umoja coalition.
The lawmakers, who were fronted by Azimio la Umoja are Narok Senator Ledama Olekina, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua, Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo, Pokot South MP David Pkosing, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo and Malindi MP Amina Mnyazi.
Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale, selected to lead the Kenya Kwanza team said they value the role the opposition plays and they are willing to engage in a bi-partisan approach to finding solutions.
“We are appreciating that the constitution of Kenya gives parliament a singular mandate of resolving issues that are of concern to the people of Kenya. The parliamentary group meeting agreed with the president on a parliamentary bipartisan approach to such matters. The parliamentary group re-affirms our commitment to the rule of law and constitutionalism and appreciates the role of opposition to oversight and criticize the government. However, as a pg, we affirm our support for the policies that are geared towards stabilizing our economy, lowering the cost of living, and creating jobs,” said Senator Khalwale
Azimio la Umoja had argued that the agencies and representatives who front members to the selection panel are inclined more towards President William Ruto, hence an unfair advantage in the choosing of the next IEBC commissioners.
This comes after Raila accepted an appeal from President William Ruto to call off Azimio demonstrations.
