Kakamega Rolls Out Road Safety Training for Bodaboda Operators

The County Government of Kakamega through the Ministry of Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture has launched a capacity building programme on road safety for motorcycle riders in Kakamega County.

While addressing select trainees on behalf of the in-charge County Executive Committee Member Mr Mophat Mandela, the Ag Head of Youth Mr James Khalwale said the County is committed to ensuring law and order is maintained in the sector, which is a major employer and income earner for youth across the country.

Mr Khalwale informed the beneficiaries that the initiative is in line with Governor Fernandes Barasa’s committment to empower bodaboda riders through such programmes which will culminate in establishment of a motorcycle assembly plant and three mega spare parts shops in line with the Governor’s Wealth creation pillar of his manifesto. He encouraged them to form Saccos so as to benefit from Government advanced loans.

He further emphasized the need for them to acquire the skills and knowledge so as to avert road accidents.
The programme also targets to mobilize youth engaged in the business to help them acquire entrepreneurship and investment skills.
