Public Participation For The Ward Climate Change Planning Committee Comes To a Close
The County Government of Uasin Gishu, Department of Water, Irrigation, Sanitation, Energy, Environment and Climate Change under the guidance of Chief Officer Mary Kerich has just concluded the Public Participation and Sensitization forum in all the wards across the county.
The exercise has seen every ward equitably elect members of the Ward Climate Change Planning Committee from every location which will help in identifying and overseeing climate change programs at the ward level.
Giving his remarks while leading the exercise in Kapkures Ward, Ag. Director Livestock Abraham Kiptanui said that climate change is all about mechanisms that will save livelihoods.
“Let us work together on reversing the effects of climate change by embracing several adaptation and mitigation mechanisms.
The formation of the Ward Climate Change Planning Committee is one of the minimum requirements by the World Bank for counties to qualify for the Financing Locally Led Climate Action(FLoCCA) funds.
The climate change unit together with the ward committee is expected to carry out a data collection exercise, on the resources and risks in every ward and come up with a County Climate Change Action Plan (CCCAP).
