This day recognizes the many contributions of Pilots who safely connect millions of passengers around the world every year. In 2013, the International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Association (IFALPA) decided that World Pilots’ Day to be celebrated on 26th April annually.

This conclusion was arrived at due to a prominent figure in the Aviation Industry known as Fesa Evrensev who was born in 1878 in Istanbul, Turkey and the first celebration of World Pilots’ Day occurred the following year, 2014. On this day in1912, Fesa Evrensev took his first flight.

After graduating, he joined a Military Academy to pursue a Military Career eventually graduating as a Cavalry Lieutenant. Since his first day in the Military Academy, he was the best student in the pilot class and it was clear that Fesa was destined to fly.

Shortly after graduating, he was appointed General Manager of the State Airlines Administration which then evolved into what we know as Turkish Airlines. Throughout his career, Fesa held different positions within Turkish Aeronautical Association making him one of the most prominent figures in the Aviation World.

Given the importance of Fesa Evrensev in the history of Turkish Aviation, the Turkish Airlines Pilots’ Association was the first to establish the 26th April as Pilots’ Day with the aim of commemorating Fesa’s first flight back in 1912. Through the wonderful dedication and professionalism of pilots, Aviation sector has grown and is still in growth ascension globally.

Captain Ian wishes all Pilots’ a Very Happy World Pilots’ Day. Happy takeoffs and safe landings.
