In a display of sheer determination and skill, Trans Nzoia County emerged victorious as the men’s volleyball champions in the highly anticipated 8th edition of the KYISA games held in Tharaka Nithi County. The county’s team triumphed over Kakamega County in a hard-fought battle, sealing their victory with a remarkable 3 sets to 1 scoreline. The intense match was witnessed by none other than the esteemed CEC for Sports, Madam Chanelle Kitony, who praised the exceptional talent showcased by Trans Nzoia.

Impressed by the team’s outstanding performance, Chanelle Kitony lauded Trans Nzoia as a hotbed of talent, emphasizing the county government’s commitment, under the leadership of Governor George Natembeya, to nurture and harness such remarkable abilities.

Ecstatic with the team’s success, Coach Edwin Kimei expressed his delight, remarking on the challenges faced throughout the competition. “This journey has been far from easy, starting from the group stages, but we overcame every obstacle to clinch the title,” said Kimei. He further urged Governor Natembeya to provide continued support to the team, recognizing the immense potential within the county’s youth.

As a token of their achievement, the Trans Nzoia team was rewarded with a cash prize of Kshs. 100k, a well-deserved recognition of their unwavering dedication and skill.

However, the games were not without their share of challenges, as several teams raised protests concerning the participation of ineligible players. Consequently, these teams faced disqualification, casting a shadow over the otherwise spirited tournament.

The primary objective of this annual event, tailored for youths aged between 18 and 25, is to unearth untapped talents at the grassroots level. Aptly named ‘Talanta Mashinani’ (Talent at the Grassroots), this flagship project aims to nurture and foster the burgeoning potential within the young athletes, serving as a stepping stone towards greater sporting achievements.
